Introduction | HSV-2 also known as human herpesvirus 2 is a member of the herpesvirus family, Herpesviridae, that infect humans. HSV-2 produces mostly genital herpes and is very common and contagious. It can be spread when an infected person begins shedding the virus. About 67% of the world population under the age of 50 has HSV-1. In the United States more than one-in-six people have HSV-2. It is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections. |
