| Introduction | Lipoxin A4 (LXA4) is an arachidonic acid metabolite and nonclassic eicosanoid that promotes and inhibits inflammatory responses. It alters the expression of various transcription factors (including NF-κB and PPARγ) and induces the production of other arachidonic acid metabolites, such as leukotriene B4 and 5-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid. Mouse models treated with additional LXA4 exhibited reduced allergic symptoms and promoted recovery from respiratory syncytial virus, however it also decreased survival rates when infected with tuberculosis. |
