Introduction | Treponema pallidum is a Gram negative spirochaete bacterium and human-specific pathogen that causes skin lesions and ulceration. It is best-known for causing syphilis, however other subspecies can cause the diseases yaws, pinta, and bejel. Syphilis patients have symptoms in waves; primary syphilis causes ulcers on various parts of the body (typically the genitals) in around 3 weeks after infection, secondary syphilis causes rashes and infectious lesions after 4-10 weeks. If untreated, the disease may progress to tertiary syphilis after at least three years, causing the formation of disfiguring gummas (a type of granuloma), meningitis, neurological disease, and cardiovascular inflammation. Syphilis can be acquired by fetuses whose mother is infected with the bacterium, which may cause congenital syphilis. Some patients and children born to syphilitic mothers and are asymptomatic for the infection. Infections are treated using benzathine penicillin G or tetracyclines, and are prevented with barrier methods during intercourse and medical screens. |
Target | Anti-Treponema Pallidum Antibody (Anti-TP) |
Reactivity | Human |
Tested Applications | ELISA |
Recommended dilutions | Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user. |
Storage | Shipped at 4 °C. Upon receipt, store the kit according to the storage instruction in the kit's manual. |
Validity | The validity for this kit is at least 6 months. Up to 12 months validity can be provided on request. |
Stability | The stability of the kit is determined by the rate of activity loss. The loss rate is less than 5% within the expiration date under appropriate storage conditions. To minimize performance fluctuations, operation procedures and lab conditions should be strictly controlled. It is also strongly suggested that the whole assay is performed by the same user throughout. |
